Pirates is a personal self-promotional photo project, created to be a nostalgic and uplifting message to the viewer. The idea of creating a narrative around a washed-up wooden pallet came to me while I was photographing surfers on the beach with my son. While walking along the beach, we found a pallet that had washed ashore. I loved the location and the possibilities the pallet provided and was curious where it came from and the story behind it. So after some preparation, I returned to the same location I found the original pallet and started to build a narrative around a salty crew of children. Although the children are using their imagination and pretending to be sailing across the ocean, the real story is found in the discarded wooden pallet, which longs to reach it's dreams of being a ship.
The entire series was created to have both a still and animated (cinemagraph) showing how both types of images can be captured simultaneously, showing . A behind the scenes video was created to illustrate the creation process of the entire project from originally being conceptualized on just a piece of paper to the finished assets.
